Snapping Turtles
The Snapping Turtles is a high school girls rugby club. Players come from various schools in the Salem/Keizer area. We play in a league that is organized through Rugby Oregon against high school teams all over Oregon and SW Washington.

CURRENT
Snapping Turtles includes teams for two different styles of rugby
Rugby 7s: Smaller team with 7 players on the pitch. It is a faster pace, 7s is more about speed, agility, and quick thinking. The game is much more open with a focus on fast breaks, counterattacks, and maintaining possession in wide spaces. Matches are 14 minutes long
Rugby 15s: Larger team with 15 players on the pitch. The play is generally more physical, with a greater emphasis on set pieces like scrums, lineouts, and rucks. Teams tend to have more structured attacks and defenses. Matches are 80 minutes long, with two 40 minute halves.
Fall 7s Season: Practice starts the first of September
Spring 15s Season: Practice starts late February.
Players are encouraged to join the team at any time. No experience or tryouts needed.
Snapping Turtles are coached by Coach Mia. If you have any questions you can contact Mia at miakate2001@gmail.com

HISTORY
Snapping Turtles was established in the spring of 2019. Through interest in playing rugby brought on by teacher/hs boys coach Joe Boyd, Salem established a high school girls team. The Smiths volunteered to coach and run the team with its first official season being Fall 7s in 2019.
As a team, the Snapping Turtles work hard to raise funds to cover player registration costs. We never want money to be a reason why someone can’t play rugby. The Turtles volunteer at events, host garage sales, and various other activities to raise money and have become very successful at it.
